The Staves at The Tabernacle

The Tabernacle in Notting Hill, is a new venue for me. It’s an old Chapel that’s been converted into an arts and music venue.

The venue was quiet nice but a bit too ‘Notting Hill’ for me. Comparisons to Union Chapel are obvious, but Union Chapel is still used as a Church and it’s got a more magical sound quality. But it’s an interesting venue.

The Staves music can probably be categorised as ‘folk indie’. With the girls using their excellent harmonisations to create a lovely unique sound. Most of tonight’s material was off their EP’s. Their first album is not out until July. But They already have some excellent materials. To some extent, the joy of the Staves is the way all three girls can take lead vocals. Each voice is distinctive enough and strong enough to hold an entire set. You feel almost feel spoilt by the end of the gig having heard so many great voices. Their parents must have had some very pleasant evenings listening to the girls practice.
