There still a few months to go. But at the moment Torres is my artist of the year. On the two previous occasions she’s played solo. She’s impressed me greatly performing her extremely strong album with an emotional fragility, yet a confidence in her performance so that makes her so convincing.

Tonight though, she had her band with her. So I was eager to see how her intensity changed. Even with a band, Torres remains the central focus of the performance. The rest of the band stay at the back of the stage so she continues to convey the isolation of her solo performance. The intensity of emotion if anything is even greater. With each song opening the door a little wider into her tortured soul. I think it’s astonishing that she can perform with this intensity night after night. At times she looks worn out by the emotional charge building up. It’s a simply amazing performance.
